Sophia Saunders-Jones is passionate about both teaching and performing. An active freelance flute and piccolo player, Sophia has worked with conductors Pierre Vallet, Ransom Wilson, and Keith Chambers, among others. She appears regularly with symphonies and opera orchestras and particularly enjoys the exhilaration of soaring above the orchestra on her piccolo. Sophia has performed at venues throughout New York City including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Symphony Space and also in the United Kingdom.

Certified as a Suzuki flute instructor, Sophia takes Shin’ichi Suzuki’s philosophy to heart. She believes that everyone can learn confidence, discipline, and the joy of self-expression through studying music. Sophia offers both traditional and Suzuki flute lessons and it is her job and her joy as an educator to tailor her teaching style to meet the varying needs, goals, and interests of each individual student.

Sophia began teaching flute while pursuing her Bachelor of Music degree at New York University. She graduated from NYU summa cum Laude in 2007 and has studied with Mindy Kaufman, Keith Underwood and Kathleen Nester.
